John Baumann is a testament to positive change. He can show anyone how to overcome adversity and live an amazing life.
Life is all about change — positive and negative — whether we like it or not. If things stayed the same, life would be easy. But change is how we grow; it forces us to adapt and evolve. How you deal with change is a matter of perspective.
John Baumann is a testament to positive change. He can show anyone how to overcome adversity and live an amazing life. Baumann was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 34. Within four years of his diagnosis, he hit rock bottom.
“Parkinson’s had completely changed my life, taking away things I loved, such as my career of practicing law and my hobbies including playing softball,” he said.
Baumann chose to turn his life-changing event into something positive. Today he’s an inspirational speaker who shares the lessons he’s learned. They apply to anyone in any circumstance — from a cancer diagnosis, to the death of a loved one, to the end of a relationship.
Baumann says you must adopt a positive mindset and work daily to maintain it. Here’s how:
1.Be an eternal optimist. You can always find something positive in any challenge and learn from it.
2.Keep on moving. Exercise your body and your brain every day.
3.Know that the only constant is change. Once you accept that, let it influence and guide you.
4.Keep your perspective. Remember that you are not defined by adversity. You are still you.
5.Regain your shout. Speak up for yourself; find your voice and use it.
6.Create action items. Commit to working toward goals every day.
7.Maintain a sense of humor.
8.Uncover your purpose. We all have a purpose in life. Dig deep to find it.
9.Discover your joy. Find what makes you happy and then go do it.
10.Believe in yourself.
11.Live in the moment. Live life in a state of awe. Every moment is an opportunity given to you; appreciate it.
12.If needed, reinvent yourself. Find new friends you can bond with through your common issues and passions.
