“Someone took the time to notice my sadness or my worry,” noted a patient’s family, describing the Environmental Services staff who helped care for them at Norton Hospital.
An Employee Resource Group collected 198 coats for a local elementary school, delivering them two days before winter break. They have now adopted the school to help with ongoing needs.
Weddings, baby showers and pet visits aren’t uncommon for Norton Healthcare staff.
“Our patients are pulled out of their everyday lives for weeks or months and become like family to us,” said Tracy Postlewait, R.N., Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital. “We’ve had baby showers, outdoor pet visits — why not a wedding? We do all we can to help our patients.”
Mieiesha Frazier, Environmental Services associate at Norton Hospital, noted that working in a hospital “can’t always be about a paycheck. If some kind words can put a smile on somebody’s face, then why not?”
