Introducing the Norton Women’s Sports Health program: Giving women’s fitness the attention it deserves
Today, the world of sports is just as much for women as for men. You don’t have to look far to see big national fitness companies marketing to women. These companies are realizing the significant role women are playing in athletics — a group that has been underserved for far too long.
While women like Ronda Rousey and the Williams sisters have helped put professional sportswomen on the map, there’s still a gap in resources for the everyday female athlete. Just do a Google search for sports-related injuries. You’ll see page after page of injuries and studies focusing on men. For us women, not so much.
Fortunately, a solution is on the horizon.
This month, Norton Healthcare is launching Norton Women’s Sports Health, a first-of-its-kind program designed to help Louisville-area women of all ages get and stay fit. It’s not just for athletes; it’s for anyone who participates in fitness activities.
Do you have pain while running or walking? We have a team of trainers and orthopaedists to help diagnose your injury and guide your progress.
Need a mental edge over your opponent? We have sports psychologists to help you stay on top of your game.
Just can’t seem to reach your health goals? We have nutritional counselors and experts focused on women’s needs, from body issues to bone health to fitness during pregnancy.
Think about how female athletes make up a significant part of our community.
This year women will make up about 57 percent of Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and MiniMarathon participants. Think about how many of our daughters play sports for their schools or in recreational leagues? Our local colleges and universities have some of the best women athletes in the country. University of Louisville alone has six women’s teams ranked in the ACC top 10.
Norton Women’s Sports Health is creating a community in which female athletes and active women can thrive — including you, no matter your fitness level or sport/activity.
The goal of Norton Women’s Sports Health is to encourage overall wellness and athletic success while connecting you with others facing similar obstacles and opportunities.
We don’t want to just talk to you about being healthy; we want to support you through every point of your fitness journey. Come as you are — at whatever stage you might be — and let’s work together to meet your goals.
