Easy peasy pizza sauce!

Pizza is a family affair in my home. Enjoying pizza while watching a movie or playing board games was a great way to connect as a family when my kids were young. Now that they’re adults, we still use it as a way to keep in touch. I make my own pizza using either a premade or homemade crust, and I always make my sauce from scratch because it’s easier than you might think!

Homemade pizza is an excellent opportunity to experiment with ingredients. You can customize it down to an individual slice. I raided the refrigerator a few days ago for our pizza and game night, adding spinach, mango and green pepper as toppings. With fresh tomatoes now readily available, I know they’ll be on the next pizza pie at my house.

Easy Peasy Pizza Sauce

  • 1 6-ounce can tomato paste
  • 6 ounces warm water (fill the empty tomato paste can)
  • 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Salt and pepper to taste

Mix everything together in a bowl and let is set for at least a half hour to combine flavors. Spread on a prepared pizza crust and top with cheese and your favorite toppings. Bake according to the directions for your crust.

I often make the sauce the night or morning before and refrigerate it so I can make a pizza quickly when I get home from work. If you are in a bigger hurry, you can heat it in a saucepan for about 10 minutes before spreading it on your crust.
