I work out regularly, so the last thing I want to do is blow it on the weekend by pigging out. But I also want a weekend reward for being good. I can take or leave a turkey burger, but a friend gave me a recipe that takes the sometimes bland burger and steps it up a notch. The recipe is not complicated and definitely turns on the taste so I don’t feel deprived. Let me know what you think!
Turkey burgers with a twist
1 pound lean ground turkey
1/3 cup chopped fresh parsley, plus a few sprigs
3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 3/4 ounces crumbled feta cheese
4 (1/4-inch thick) slices red onion
4 whole-wheat hamburger buns, toasted
In a medium bowl, mix first eight ingredients. Use an ice cream scoop or 1/2-cup measure to make four equal-size patties. Broil for 5 to 6 minutes on each side or until done. Place burgers on the bottom half of each bun. Top with onion slices and a Dijon-and-ketchup mixture (a trick for cutting sugar from your diet), if desired; garnish with parsley sprigs.
