Susan Barker, MHA, M.S., CCC-SLP, is the director of the Norton Neurosciences & Spine Rehabilitation Center. Her leadership of the department and support of therapists help provide quality care to all the patients and families who attend therapy in the outpatient clinic setting. Barker earned her bachelor’s degree in communication disorders from Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond; a master’s degree in communicative disorders from the University of Louisville; and a master’s degree in health care administration from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. She holds multiple specialty certifications, including VitalStim therapy, Lee Silverman Voice Treatment, manual techniques in dysphagia management, and post laryngectomy restoration with tracheoesophageal puncture and prosthesis. She is trained in fiberoptic evaluation of swallowing and modified barium swallow studies.

Heather Blackadar, PTA, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Amherst College, Massachusetts, and an associate degree as a physical therapy assistant from North Shore Community College, Danvers, Massachusetts. She has more than 10 years of experience in a wide variety of clinical areas, having worked in acute care and skilling nursing facilities and as a traveling therapy assistant. Blackadar has a special interest in safe exercises for osteoporosis.

Katherine Dally, M.S., CCC-SLP, earned her Master of Science degree in communicative disorders from the University of Louisville. She has certification in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) LOUD and VitalStim therapy, and specializes in augmentative and alternative communication devices for patients to better communicate with their loved ones. Dally specializes in the treatment of neurological disorders, including brain tumor, traumatic brain injuries, stroke and multiple sclerosis. She leads Brain Games Cafe, a monthly group hosted by the Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Center for people with memory loss and cognitive issues, and their loved ones. Dally also is trained in fiberoptic evaluation of swallowing and modified barium swallow studies.

Colin Hulls, P.T., DPT, earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences and doctorate in physical therapy from Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is certified in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment BIG for treatment of patients with Parkinson’s disease, and is working toward Neuro-IFRAH certification for treatment of patients who suffered a stroke or traumatic brain injury and becoming a neurologic certified specialist. Hulls has experience in working with a variety of neurological diagnoses, including Parkinson’s, stroke, spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury, as well as orthopaedic injuries.

Keegan D. Humphrey, OTR/L, DPAM, earned his bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science degree in occupational therapy from the University of Southern Indiana, Evansville. He has been a traveling therapist throughout Kentucky and Indiana, working in various clinical settings for more than five years. He has a passion for pursuing education and working with patients with neurological disorders and low-vision conditions. He is working toward his specialization certification in low vision, as well as certified driver rehabilitation.

Jennifer Krainer, P.T., DPT, CBIS, earned her doctorate in physical therapy from Washington University, St Louis, Missouri. She has specialized in brain injury and stroke rehab and is certified as a brain injury specialist. She has certification in cancer rehab through the STAR program with Oncology Rehab Partners. She has extensive experience working with post-surgical diagnoses, trauma, cardio-pulmonary, spinal-cord injury, Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis, and has interests in spinal rehab and orthopaedics.

Ron Lasley, P.T., DPT, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in health care leadership from the University of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois, and his doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Findlay, Findlay, Ohio. He has certification in scoliosis therapy from the Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School, Barcelona, Spain. He worked in outpatient physical therapy with an emphasis on developing strong manual therapy skills for the past 20 years and has more than 12 years of experience in the acute care inpatient setting. His emphasis is on treating adolescent and adult scoliosis patients.

Daniel Lutz, PTA, earned associate degrees in applied sciences and as a physical therapy assistant from Jefferson Community and Technical College in Louisville. He spent three years practicing in the outpatient orthopaedic and spine clinical areas before joining the Norton Neurosciences & Spine Rehabilitation Center team. Lutz has a passion for learning about various diagnoses. He works hard to make therapy fun and challenging for his patients on a daily basis. Lutz also enjoys being involved in clinical education for physical therapy assistants interested in caring for patients with neuro/spine conditions.

Wes Miller, OTR/L,, earned his Bachelor of Science degree in health and science and his master’s in occupational therapy from Spalding University in Louisville. He is certified by NBCOT as a registered therapist. He also has certifications in deep physical agent modalities and mist therapy for wound healing. He has spent the majority of his career in inpatient acute and sub-acute rehabilitation but found his true calling in wheelchair seating, positioning and mobility. Miller plans to pursue certifications as an assistive technology professional and seating and mobility specialist.

Laura K. Miller, P.T., DPT, NCS, MSCS, ATP, earned her bachelor’s degree in health sciences and a doctorate in physical therapy from Bellarmine University in Louisville. She holds multiple specialty certifications, including multiple sclerosis certified specialist (MSCS), neurological certified specialist (NCS) and assistive technology provider (ATP). Miller is passionate about treating neurological disorders and has a special interest in vestibular disorders, brain tumors and multiple sclerosis. She currently is working toward her doctorate in health sciences at the University of St. Augustine in Florida. She is the coordinator of clinical education for Norton Neurosciences & Spine Rehabilitation Center as well as a mentor for the Norton Neurological Physical Therapy Residency Program. Miller also guest lectures at the Bellarmine University Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program.

Jason Nachazel, P.T., graduated summa cum laude from Ohio University, Athens, with a bachelor’s degree. He completed his master’s degree in physical therapy at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia. Nachazel has more than 13 years of experience in the outpatient physical therapy setting, including orthopaedics, sports medicine and spine dysfunction. Nachazel is an American Physical Therapy Association-certified clinical instructor.

Jill Thompson, P.T., DPT, earned her bachelor’s degree in health sciences and doctorate in physical therapy from Bellarmine University in Louisville. She recently served as a clinical instructor for doctorate in physical therapy students and has an interest in pursuing further education in multiple sclerosis and dry needling techniques. Thompson is an American Physical Therapy Association-certified clinical instructor.

Melissa “Missy” Zavell, M.S., OTR/L, earned her Master of Science in occupational therapy from Spalding University in Louisville and graduated summa cum laude from Florida State University, Tallahassee, with her Bachelor of Science in psychology. She specializes in seating, positioning and mobility in the Center for Independent Living and currently is working toward her assistive technology professional certificate. Zavell treats patients of all ages and is passionate about helping her patients achieve optimal independence in all aspects of daily living.
