N Good Health, Norton Healthcare’s employee wellness department, held its first-ever Norton Star Chef competition on Tuesday, April 25, at Norton Women’s & Children’s Hospital. Norton Healthcare’s five chefs went head-to-head in the ultimate cooking challenge, serving up a twist to a summertime favorite — the hamburger.

The first-ever Norton Star Chef has been named and is now part of the national Blended Burger Project competition sponsored by the James Beard Foundation and the Mushroom Council.

The Blended Burger Project is an initiative showcasing the many benefits of the beef-and-mushroom blended burger, which includes reduced calories and sodium while maintaining flavor. It is in line with Norton Healthcare’s Look for Local initiative, which brings local produce and meat to our cafeterias.

After an exciting showdown, Norton Audubon Hospital’s chef Jeff Kukulski’s spicy “Gaucho Burger” wowed the judges, including Russell F. Cox, president and CEO; Michael W. Gough, executive vice president, and hospital chief administrative officers.

Chef Jeff’s winning recipe will be featured in all Norton Healthcare cafeterias on Wednesdays through the months of June and July.

“The burger will be served at an ‘action station,’ giving guests a chance to customize their order,” said Erin Wiedmar, clinical nutritionist with N Good Health. “Enjoy the health benefits of just the blended burger with veggies and sauces on a whole-wheat bun or add all of the ingredients for the full Gaucho experience.”

You can help Chef Jeff win a trip to New York City to grill up his burger in the famed kitchen of the James Beard Foundation by going toJamesBeard.org. Voting runs to July 31.
