Edie Nixon has given a lifetime of service to Norton healthcare and the community at large. She currently serves on the following Norton Healthcare leadership groups:
After the death of her mother, Dotsie Nixon, in 2000 to ovarian cancer, Edie became a donor and volunteer with Norton Cancer Institute. Her passion for supporting cancer care started with her family’s leadership and funding of an annual lectureship named in honor of Dotsie.
Edie’s engagement with the institute has deepened over the past 30 years. She serves in numerous volunteer capacities and has led her family’s investment in an art glass window and meditation room Norton Cancer Institute’s downtown location in honor of her father’s 80th birthday.
As a not-for-profit health care provider, Norton Healthcare relies on the generosity of the community to help us continue to provide the quality of care our patients have come to know and expect.

This year, Edie broadened her support into the expansion of Norton Healthcare’s Heel, Dog, Heal facility therapy dog program. She made a lead gift for pet therapy programming in three of Norton Healthcare’s adult-service hospitals and Norton Cancer Institute. Thanks to her generosity, Juno and Pepper are Norton Healthcare’s newest four-legged “employees,” providing pet therapy to patients and staff.
Edie also made an irrevocable estate gift. Additionally, she supports multiple Norton Children’s Hospital and Norton Healthcare Foundation events each year.
In recognition of her tireless giving over so many years, Edie Nixon was named Philanthropist of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Greater Louisville chapter. She was nominated for this award by Norton Healthcare.
