For the fifth straight year, Norton Healthcare is a finalist in the 2017 Business First Healthiest Employers of Greater Louisville Award, large-employer category (5,000 to 49,000 employees). The awards presentation was held on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Louisville Slugger Field.

Now in its eighth year, the award recognizes businesses for implementing programs that help employees stay well and improve their health, creating healthier workplaces and a healthier community overall.

The Healthiest Employers ranking is based on a 75-question online assessment in six key areas of workplace wellness: culture and leadership commitment, foundational components, strategic planning, communication and marketing, program and interventions, and reporting and analysis.

As a workplace of caregivers, we believe that employees who take care of themselves are better able to care for others. However, self-care often is put on the back burner. We have made strides to make it easier for employees to put their own health first.

Through N Good Health, our employee wellness program, staff has access to Y @ Work Fitness Centers on the downtown campus and at Watterson Tower, Rx for Better Health diabetes management program, tobacco cessation programs, wellness workshops, nutrition classes, health style coaching, team steps challenges and more. N Good Health also is open to employees’ spouses who carry health insurance through Norton Healthcare.

In 2016, more than 90 percent of our nearly 14,000 employees participated in N Good Health. Participants take a health risk assessment, get regular preventive cancer screenings, visit their primary care provider for annual wellness exams and engage in additional programs to maintain and/or improve their health. Since N Good Health began in 2009, employees’ interest in health and wellness has grown and continues to increase each year.

N Good Health drives our wellness culture. Employees who participate use preventive care more often; have fewer hospital stays and re-admissions; and visit emergency rooms or immediate care centers less often than nonparticipants. In addition, medical costs for employees overall were 20 percent lower than expected.

“In N Good Health’s eight years, we’ve seen a huge shift in Norton Healthcare’s wellness culture driven by the support of leadership,” said Allison Ledford, director, Employee Wellness. “We’ll continue to make strides toward becoming the healthiest health system in the region by offering our employees and their spouses the resources and support needed to be healthy.”

Congratulations to our employees on achieving this outstanding recognition!
