Visitors and caregivers at Norton Women’s & Children’s Hospital now have a new quiet space for prayer, meditation and comfort. A new chapel featuring art glass windows has opened on the first floor of the hospital near the Derby Divas Breast Health Center.
The chapel was made possible thanks to $248,000 in grants from the Norton Healthcare Foundation and Children’s Hospital Foundation. Several gifts were given to the foundations specifically for this project, including from Illuminated Designs Inc., the Kathleen M. Schroder estate, the family of John L. Zehnder Jr., and Norton Women’s & Children’s Hospital employees and medical staff.
Dr. and Mrs. Richard S. Wolf made four art glass windows possible. Glass artists Bob Markert and Peter Eichorn created the windows inspired by photos the Wolfs took on travels around the world. The artists also created windows for Norton Children’s Hospital and the pediatric wing of Norton Women’s & Children’s Hospital based on the Wolfs’ photography.
“This new chapel is in a more common, visible area and is an inviting space that is perfect for those seeking comfort and quiet,” said Rev. Ronald C. Oliver, Ph.D., MBA, BCC, system vice president, mission and outreach, Norton Healthcare. “Norton Healthcare chaplains also are available 24 hours a day to provide support when needed.”
As a not-for-profit health care provider, Norton Healthcare relies on the generosity of the community to help us continue to provide the quality of care our patients have come to know and expect.

“We’re honored to have been able to be a part of a project that pays such a tribute to our organization’s faith heritage,” said Lynnie Meyer, Ed.D., R.N., CFRE, senior vice president and chief development officer, Norton Healthcare. “Our donors have really made this wonderful space possible and open to all.”
A prayer book and note cards allow people to leave prayers and wishes behind, to request healing or simply to share thanks. Eucharistic ministers will have access to consecrated communion at the chapel, and a Catholic Mass will be held on Mondays at noon.
“We want our chapel to be inviting to everyone, and are grateful to the donors who have made that possible,” said Rev. Kelley Woggon, M.Div., BCC, director of pastoral care, Norton Healthcare.
