It’s time for Kentucky Derby festivities in Louisville, which means horse racing, live music, mint juleps and celebrity sightings.
It’s also springtime in the Ohio Valley, and the combination of “meadow’s in the bloom” and Kentucky Derby fun overload can get you scratched from your favorite Derby-related events. Don’t let it happen.

Whether you’re experiencing upset stomach from travel, a stomach bug or too much good food and drink, it can definitely sideline you. Symptoms of stomach issues include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation or abdominal cramps.
Rachel suggests seeing a provider if your symptoms last longer than a few days or if your symptoms are severe. Severe symptoms that should prompt you to contact your provider include:
Prevention is key to ensuring skin issues like sunburn, rashes and insect bites don’t take the fun out of the season. Rachel recommends that you protect your skin by following sun and skin safety, which includes wearing sunscreen and bug spray; accessorizing with protective clothing such as a hat, sunglasses, long sleeves or pants; and avoiding the sun in the middle of the day.
According to Rachel, a health care provider can evaluate skin issues, monitor for infection if there are blisters or broken skin, and treat symptoms of pain. However, if sunburn is severe, it may require evaluation at an emergency department.
