Norton Healthcare celebrated the grand opening of Norton Pharmacy – Blankenbaker, a full-service retail pharmacy and home to the health system’s new central fill pharmacy. This innovative facility uses advanced automation to prepare thousands of prescriptions for adults and children each day, helping make prescription services more convenient for patients.
“Norton Pharmacy – Blankenbaker represents another investment in making healthcare more convenient and accessible for the communities we serve,” said Russell F. Cox, president and CEO, Norton Healthcare. “By centralizing much of the prescription fulfillment process, we’re strengthening our existing retail pharmacies while introducing home delivery as a new service, making it easier for patients to get the medications they need.”
The Aug. 13 ribbon-cutting marked the official celebration of Norton Pharmacy – Blankenbaker, which opened last month at 2701 Chestnut Station Court in Louisville. The new retail pharmacy offers prescription pickup and home delivery at no additional charge for patients with a Kentucky or Indiana home address.
Norton Pharmacy – Blankenbaker is the first retail pharmacy in the Norton Healthcare and Norton Children’s system to offer home delivery, as well as the first location to include a centralized prescription fulfillment operation. Together, the retail pharmacy and centralized prescription fulfillment support home delivery while improving pharmacy operations across the system.

This pharmacy model supports a safer, more consistent pharmacy experience across Norton Healthcare and Norton Children’s by combining advanced automation with the expertise and oversight of Norton Pharmacy pharmacists.
“By preparing the majority of our retail prescriptions centrally — up to 7,000 per eight-hour shift — pharmacy team members working at our retail pharmacy locations on our hospital campuses can spend more time focusing on preparing our patients for a safe discharge,” said Amanda L. Castle, system vice president, Norton Pharmacy. “This innovative approach will help us continue delivering safe prescription services while supporting our patients and pharmacy teams for years to come.”
Norton Pharmacy – Blankenbaker is a 41,242-square-foot facility representing a nearly $29.8 million investment by Norton Healthcare. The infrastructure for prescription preparation is one of the largest for health systems in the United States. The pharmacy opened with 30 employees on July 20, 2026, following extensive renovations to an existing building.
“After years of having to travel a long distance for my prescriptions, I am thrilled for the option of home delivery,” said Vanta Lewis, Norton Healthcare patient. “This additional pharmacy creates convenience and access for patients across the region.”
