Norton Healthcare has been named 7th among the top-ranking health care organizations nationally — and the highest in Kentucky among large organizations (5,000-plus U.S. employees) — on the 2019 list of Best Places to Work in IT by Computerworld. The not-for-profit health care system was ranked 11th in 2018.
The annual list of top 100 organizations is compiled based on benefits, career development, training and retention, as well as a survey of information technology (IT) workers.
“Health care increasingly relies on information services. I am proud of the team we have built at Norton Healthcare to support the growing technology needs of our organization,” said Steve L. Ready, system vice president, information services, and chief information officer. “As an organization, we strive to provide important opportunities for career development and training. This allows our employees to grow and become high performers – it is a win-win. Retention is a key focus for our organization; we continually work with human resources to ensure we are meeting the needs of our team members in the ever-changing world of technology.”
The Norton Healthcare information services department has 290 full-time employees who support the organization’s IT operations; cybersecurity; business and clinical applications, such as its electronic medical records system called Epic; business intelligence; and help desk service and support for some 15,000 employees.
“The market for IT talent remains very tight, and employers continue to focus on finding and holding on to the best people,” said Ken Mingis, executive editor, Computerworld. “Our 2019 survey shows again that the Best Places to Work in IT are dynamic organizations that provide top pay and a broad array of programs and benefits designed to make them attractive places to work. Many show that they have a commitment to training, to diversity and to improved communication and teamwork.”
Norton Healthcare also is one of the 150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare 2019 according to Becker’s Healthcare.
