You can run a Kentucky Derby Festival race

Norton Sports Health offers a free training program.

Before we know it, runners will be pounding the pavement through the streets of Louisville for the annual Kentucky Derby Festival miniMarathon and marathon. Whether you’re considering participating for the first time or are a seasoned race veteran, now is the time to start thinking about training — and Norton Sports Health has you covered!

As the official medical provider for the race, Norton Sports Health offers race-day medical care for participants and a free 15-week training program for runners and walkers of all fitness levels. The training program features weekly group runs, training tips, and information on nutrition and injury prevention. This year, program participants can look forward to some new elements, including post-run social opportunities, new training routes and yoga.

Come to a special event Thursday, Jan. 10, 6 to 8 p.m., at the Kentucky Derby Museum, 704 Central Ave., to kick off the training program. You’ll receive a free training manual and overview of both races. You’ll also have the opportunity to talk with physicians and other members of the Norton Sports Health team.

The first training run will get underway Saturday, Jan. 12.
