Anemia

Submit request or call to make an appointment.

Anemia is a condition in which the body doesn’t have enough red blood cells, or hemoglobin, in the blood. This means the blood is unable to carry enough oxygen to the body. Anemia causes a lack of energy, shortness of breath, limited exercise ability and, in severe cases, disability.

The board-certified, fellowship-trained hematology specialists at Norton Healthcare provide comprehensive care for patients with anemia. The severity of anemia can range from mild to progressive, so our hematology specialists work to diagnose and treat any underlying causes in order to restore patients’ health and ability to function in their lives.

Comprehensive Diagnostics and Treatment for Anemia

The hematology specialists at Norton Healthcare perform comprehensive diagnostic studies to determine any underlying causes of a patient’s anemia. Testing may include:

  • Molecular study
  • Blood and bone marrow exam
  • Comprehensive genetic testing

Treatment for anemia will depend on a patient’s diagnosis and the presence of underlying conditions. Whether the cause is found to be cancerous or noncancerous, patients have access to conventional and innovative treatments, clinical studies and multidisciplinary clinics, including:
