Today, Jan. 19, marks the fifth annual celebration of National Day of Racial Healing. This observance represents an opportunity to appreciate our shared humanity and work with one another to build a more equitable society.
At Norton Healthcare, we honor the spirit of this day through our organizational purpose to provide quality health care to all those we serve, in a manner that responds to the needs of our community and honors our faith heritage. This calling is firmly ingrained in the words of our mission statement, and we strive to live them out through our ongoing efforts with the five imperatives to address health and racial equity:
Through these imperatives, we remain committed to taking a leadership position in creating a more just world.
Within the organization, our Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Department works diligently to embrace diversity and support all employees through the combination of three key elements:
Equity: We recognize that advantages and barriers exist. We all don’t start from the same place, and we must continue to correct and address the imbalance.
Inclusion: Maintaining an environment where all employees are empowered to fully contribute and be engaged, and are supported to reach their full potential.
Belonging: Supporting every employee’s authentic self as welcomed and celebrated so employees can thrive and feel comfortable contributing.
As today we celebrate the advances that humankind has made toward improved social justice, we also must remain conscious of the great distance that lies ahead on the road to equality. We, as a people, all must do better to open our hearts and minds compassionately to those with scars still in need of healing.
