Skip the side of MSG, cornstarch, hydrogenated oil and silicon dioxide at your next Taco Tuesday by making your own taco seasoning. Add this seasoning to your favorite meat or meat substitute for flavor-packed tacos with none of the additives.
DIY Taco Seasoning
Makes 4 servings per 1 pound of meat or meat substitute
Prep: 5 minutes Cook: 15 minutes (includes cooking meat)
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon chili powder
½ teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon salt
1 pound of ground meat or meat substitute
8 ounces tomato sauce, no added salt
Combine the dry spices in a small bowl. Cook the meat or meat substitute until done. Drain any fat, if needed. Add the tomato sauce and spice blend to the meat and stir. Simmer uncovered for 3 to 4 minutes. Serve warm with your favorite taco fixings or in a taco salad.
