NPride, Norton Healthcare’s LGBTQ and allies’ employee resource group, celebrates Pride Month by recognizing a few of our notable employee members.

The patient experience is important at Norton Healthcare. We value quality, safety and respect — with every patient, every time. A positive patient experience could lead to continued services, expanding of a patient’s network of care, referrals and even employment.

“I was a Norton patient before I was a Norton employee,” said Beth Groves, surgery scheduler, Norton Orthopedic Institute. “The way my family and I were treated made it an easy choice to work at Norton Healthcare.”

While in the hospital for an emergency appendectomy, Beth was scared to come out to her care providers. She worried that she would be mistreated or that she wouldn’t get the same level of care because of her sexual orientation. This is a common assumption among the LGBTQ community when interacting with health care providers. However, for Beth, her experience was positive and she calls on it now as an employee when interacting with patients.

“I carry that interaction in the back of my mind when speaking with patients,” Beth said. “Everyone should have the best care and should never feel out of place, especially when seeking care. That’s what I strive to create in my everyday encounters with patients.”

Beth is a co-leader of Norton Healthcare’s NPride employee resource group (ERG). She said she appreciates the experiences she has gained as part of the ERG.

“It has opened my eyes to all the great work Norton Healthcare is doing to make sure every employee is included and heard,” Beth said.

Beth also serves as a mentor for a local LGBTQAI+ youth group. In this role, she has gained confidence and a better sense of self-worth. She’s also gained a responsibility to help create a better world for a younger generation and is proud to recommend Norton Healthcare as not only a place to receive care but find a career home.

Thank you to Beth and all of our NPride members for serving our patients, employees and community.
