The YMCA of Greater Louisville announced today that Norton Healthcare will occupy 6,000 square feet of space in its new West End location at Broadway and 18th Street. Norton Healthcare will open a medical home there to serve both adults and children.
“A medical home is more than a place —it’s a model of care that connects patients with all aspects of care, including improved access to specialists,” said Russell F. Cox, president and chief executive officer of Norton Healthcare. “ It’s a model we’ve been using in other offices around the city, and we believe it will make a difference here.”
Last fall, the Norton Healthcare Board of Trustees approved a strategic plan for the organization that included a commitment to improve access to care in West Louisville. This new location continues work already being done with the YMCA of Greater Louisville on programs aimed at reducing childhood obesity and improving employee health and fitness through Y at Work programs at two Norton Healthcare locations.
West Louisville currently has only one primary care medical provider for every 2,000 people, while the rest of Jefferson County has more than one for every 1,000 people.Norton Healthcare is committed to improving that statistic. “
We are excited to work with the YMCA to bring a medical home to this location,” Cox said. “ We look forward to creating new relationships between health care providers, patients and families to improve their health.”
The new 62,000-square-foot YMCA also will be occupied by Republic Bank, ProRehab Physical Therapy and Family and Children’s Place. Construction is expected to begin in fall 2017.
