The Norton Neuroscience Institute Cressman Parkinson’s & Movement Disorders Center is dedicated to offering the most advanced treatments and support for people with Parkinson’s disease. Our providers from across various specialties work collaboratively, often in the same multidisciplinary clinic, so patients benefit from a range of opinions for their care and can schedule multiple appointments for the same visit.
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder caused by the breakdown of nerve cells in the part of the brain that controls movement. These nerve cells die or become damaged, losing the ability to produce an important chemical called dopamine. Studies have shown that symptoms of Parkinson’s develop in patients with an 80% or greater loss of dopamine-producing cells.
While a cure has yet to be found for Parkinson’s, Norton Neuroscience Institute offers advanced treatments available to help control your symptoms.
Norton Neuroscience Institute has neurosurgeons who are advancing care for movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia. Our providers are the first in Kentucky to offer MRI-guided high-frequency focused ultrasound (HiFu treatment) for essential tremor and tremor-dominant Parkinson’s disease. We have extensive experience with deep brain stimulation for movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia. With electrodes placed in the brain — at the precise spot that can provide relief — low-voltage electrical pulses that interrupt the signals that generate tremors and other bothersome movements.
In addition to expertise in medical care for patients with Parkinson’s disease, we provide extensive support that includes:
