Norton Sleep Center, the leader in sleep medicine for patients in Louisville and Southern Indiana, provides the latest in-home sleep studies for sleep apnea.
A home sleep study focuses more on measuring breathing while you sleep and can be effective for diagnosing sleep apnea. Because it doesn’t measure everything we look for during a lab sleep study, it isn’t a good choice for diagnosing other sleep disorders.
Your sleep specialist can advise whether a home sleep study is right for you.
A home sleep study measures your oxygen levels, heart rate, airflow and movement in your chest and abdomen. It also will record time spent snoring and your sleep position. Lab sleep studies also measure brain waves, time asleep and leg movements.
For a home sleep study, we lend you the equipment, which transmits data to your sleep specialist for evaluation and diagnosis.
At-home sleep studies are convenient options if you are a parent of small children, live or work far from one of our four sleep centers or have another situation that makes a lab sleep study impractical.
A home sleep study could underestimate the severity of your sleep apnea. You won’t have technicians on hand to ensure the equipment is properly set up or help you if it detaches in the night.
Home sleep studies, however, can be less expensive than lab sleep studies.
Norton Sleep Center locations are staffed with fellowship-trained and board-certified physicians and sleep technologists who are experienced in diagnosing and treating a variety of sleep disorders.
