Whether you are beginning your educational journey or advancing your career, Norton Healthcare scholarship opportunities provide valuable financial assistance and recognition for your dedication to excellence in patient care and community health.

Dependents of Norton Healthcare employees who are considering a degree in a health care-related field may be eligible for a $2,000 scholarship for the fall 2026 semester. These awards are made possible through the generosity of the James R. Petersdorf Fund.

How It Works

To be considered for a Norton Healthcare James R. Petersdorf Dependent Scholarship, your dependent/child must be:

  • Eligible to be covered as a dependent under your benefits plan
  • Accepted into or enrolled in a regionally accredited university or college in preparation for an undergraduate degree in a health care-related field
  • A student with full-time status during the semester for which the scholarship is paid

You must remain employed with Norton Healthcare during the scholarship period.

Dependents of providers and employees at the director level and above are not eligible for this scholarship opportunity at this time.

Application Requirements

  • Résumé (including volunteer activities and awards)
  • Letter of recommendation from an educator or employer
  • Most recent transcript from applicant’s university, college or high school
  • Incoming freshman only:
    • Acceptance letter or proof of enrollment from applicant’s university or college
  • Essay of 2,500 words or less, that responds to the following points:
    • All Applicants
      • Discuss one current or future issue facing the health care industry.
      • Who or what has been most influential in your decision to continue your education and why?
    • New Scholarship Applicants
      • Discuss how the Norton Healthcare James R. Petersdorf Dependent Scholarship would impact your ability to pursue a health care-related degree.
      • Describe your career plans after you complete your degree.
    • Previous Scholarship Recipients:

      • How have your current career plans evolved since you received the Norton Healthcare James R. Petersdorf Dependent Scholarship?

Through the Norton Healthcare Foundation Lansing Scholars Program, Norton Healthcare will help cover college expenses for Bellarmine University nursing students. This is a competitive opportunity with a limited number of scholarships. If you are selected as a scholarship recipient, you will receive $2,000 in the fall semester and $2,000 in the spring semester until you graduate. These funds are a gift. You can use them for tuition, mandatory school supplies, technology expenses and study-abroad opportunities.

Who Is Eligible?

The Norton Healthcare Foundation Lansing Scholars Program is open to undergraduate nursing students actively enrolled at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, including incoming freshmen and accelerated students.

Application Requirements

  • Résumé
  • Transcript; must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher
  • Three letters of recommendation

– All letters must be a professional reference.

– One letter must be from an educator, preferably a Bellarmine University faculty member.

  • One-page essay

– Your essay should highlight your commitment to innovation in health care and explain why the Norton Healthcare Foundation Lansing Scholars Program would benefit you. Include any community service you’ve completed, especially if it is related to health care.
