  • Norton Healthcare Academy: Current high school students in health sciences academies at participating Jefferson County Public Schools are eligible to apply for the Norton Healthcare Academy, which provides hands-on learning and career development opportunities, including job shadowing, clinical symposiums and evidence-based projects.
  • Norton Healthcare-UPS Health Care Career Tracks: In a unique collaboration with UPS, Norton Healthcare offers educational pathways to a variety of health care careers while providing experiential learning opportunities.
  • Job Shadowing: Shadowing provides high school and college students the opportunity to better understand different career opportunities within the health care setting. Job shadowing opportunities are available for clinical and nonclinical job roles. Norton Healthcare’s job shadowing program is a hands-off, observation-only experience.
  • Children’s Hospital Foundation Teen Board and Teen Ambassador programs: Meet and share ideas with peers to help the kids at Norton Children’s Hospital through fundraising, events, volunteering and special projects.
  • Norton Healthcare Foundation: Connect with volunteer opportunities inside Norton Healthcare and throughout the community. High school students are eligible to volunteer at many events, helping you to satisfy program requirements, network with Norton Healthcare employees and other community members, and get satisfaction from giving back.
  • Norton Healthcare-UPS Health Care Career Tracks: In a unique collaboration with UPS, Norton Healthcare offers educational pathways to a variety of health care careers while providing experiential learning opportunities.
  • Student Nurse Apprenticeship Program (SNAP): SNAP is a student nurse readiness for practice program. This program is a paid, registered apprenticeship, reinforcing nursing education and patient safety, awareness of the professional nurse role and an appreciation of organization and operations within a health care setting.
  • Job Shadowing: Shadowing provides high school and college students the opportunity to better understand different career opportunities within the health care setting. Job shadowing opportunities are available for clinical and nonclinical job roles. Norton Healthcare’s job shadowing program is a hands-off, observation-only experience.
  • Allied health and professional placement: Norton Healthcare offers clinical placement for all allied health professional programs in which the organization holds a clinical affiliation agreement with the school, university or academic program.
  • Nursing clinical placement: Norton Healthcare is proud to collaborate with undergraduate schools of nursing across our region.
  • Norton Healthcare Foundation: Connect with volunteer opportunities inside Norton Healthcare and throughout the community. College students are eligible to volunteer at many events, helping you to network with Norton Healthcare employees and other community members as well as get satisfaction from giving back.
  • Respiratory Therapy Apprenticeship Program: Norton Healthcare’s Respiratory Therapy Apprenticeship Program is a tiered approach to practice experience and learning development in the field of respiratory care. This is a paid apprenticeship program that prepares students for a registered respiratory therapist role after graduation.
  • Norton Scholar: Norton Healthcare offers several opportunities for scholarships and training to help students pursue careers in health care.
  • Advanced degrees: Guidance and mentoring are provided for master’s and doctorate-level programs, including potential project/study ideas and alignment to goals and academic program, clinical placement and coordination with the Norton Healthcare Office of Research Administration.
  • Job Shadowing: Shadowing provides graduate-level students the opportunity to better understand different career opportunities within the health care setting. Job shadowing opportunities are available for clinical and nonclinical job roles. Norton Healthcare’s job shadowing program is a hands-off, observation-only experience.

  • Norton Healthcare Foundation: Connect with volunteer opportunities inside Norton Healthcare and throughout the community. Graduate-level students are eligible to volunteer at many events, giving you the opportunity to network with Norton Healthcare employees and other community members as well as get satisfaction from giving back.
  • Norton University: Current employees are eligible to participate in unique learning opportunities designed to enhance their personal and professional development through face-to-face classes, multiweek cohorts and online sessions.

  • Norton Healthcare Institute for Nursing: Norton Healthcare Institute for Nursing is a National League for Nursing-designated Center of Excellence in Nursing Education. The Norton Healthcare Institute for Nursing team is committed to valuable education, practice and training opportunities to enhance clinical skill and professional growth throughout a nurse’s career.
  • Job Shadowing: Shadowing provides employees an opportunity to explore other roles within the organization as well as different health care settings. Job shadowing opportunities are available for clinical and nonclinical job roles. Norton Healthcare’s job shadowing program is a hands-off, observation-only experience.
  • Norton Healthcare Foundation/Children’s Hospital Foundation: Through the support of our foundations offices, Norton Healthcare is able to make a difference for the more than 600,000 patients and their families who come to us for help each year. Our foundations offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals of all ages.
  • Medical Assistant Trainee Program: Norton Healthcare’s medical assistant training prepares individuals with little to no medical background to deliver safe, patient-centered care in outpatient or primary care settings. This is a paid training program. Successful completion of the program will result in employment as a medical assistant at Norton Healthcare.
  • Surgical technologist programs: Norton Healthcare offers a partnership program with Jefferson Community and Technical College as well as an in-house apprenticeship program for students seeking a career as a surgical technologist.

    • Nursing Core: Biweekly orientation for incoming Norton Healthcare nurses. The three-day onboarding introduces new hires to the Norton Healthcare foundations of nursing practice and a review of system topics to deliver safe, effective care to our patients and families.
    • Nurse Residency Program: The Nurse Residency Program facilitates a new graduate’s successful transition from student nurse to practicing nurse. The program contains didactic and interactive learning opportunities to support clinical and professional growth.
    • Nurse certification: Validation of a nurse’s knowledge, skills and abilities within an area of specialty. Standards and requirements are determined by the certifying organization.
    • Professional Nursing Contribution Program (PNCP): This program is designed for high-performing nurses who want to participate in the success of their unit and the nursing program. Nurses will participate in efforts to support organizational goals such as patient and employee experience, quality outcomes and stewardship.
    • Advanced degrees: Guidance and mentoring are provided for master’s and doctorate-level programs, including potential project/study ideas and alignment to goals and academic program, clinical placement and coordination with the Norton Healthcare Office of Research Administration.
    • Career development: Norton Healthcare offers employees a number of career development opportunities through our Office of Workforce Development and Norton Healthcare Institute for Nursing. From tuition support to career coaching and more, Norton Healthcare invests in its employees’ future.
