Hands-only CPR | Norton Healthcare Louisville, Ky.

Hands-only CPR

Call 911 if you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse.

Push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the beat of a familiar song that has 100 to 120 beats per minute

(“Stayin’ Alive,” “Crazy in Love,” “Walk the Line”)

About 90% of people die if they have a heart attack outside of a hospital, according to the American Heart Association. CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double or triple survival chances.

Hands-only CPR has been shown to be as effective in the first few minutes as conventional CPR for cardiac arrest. Call 911 right away, and the emergency services worker can help talk you through it while dispatching help.

Learn conventional CPR as a next step. Find a CPR class near you at Heart.org/CPR.
