Heart Rhythm Diagnostic and Monitoring Devices

The Norton Heart & Vascular Institute Heart Rhythm Center uses the latest in technology to detect and diagnose heart arrhythmias. Depending on the type of arrhythmia you have, different testing and length of monitoring may be required. The Heart Rhythm Center offers a full suite of monitoring device options and a team of technicians to monitor your heart rhythm remotely.

It’s important to achieve accurate monitoring of your heart rhythm, but we know convenience as you carry on with your day is important too. Our team works with you to create a plan to monitor your heart to achieve an accurate diagnosis in a way that is as convenient for you as possible.

Heart Rhythm Monitoring Technologies

AliveCor

AliveCor is an electrocardiogram (EKG) monitoring device that connects to a smartphone app. With the touch of the record button and placement of two fingers from each hand on small sensors near the phone, in 30 seconds you can record an EKG on your smartphone. If the app detects possible atrial fibrillation (A-fib), a type of irregular heartbeat, it signals an alert. You can email the EKG reading to our physicians for review.

“As a diagnostic tool, the app is not as accurate as a medical-grade device but has benefits,” said Kent E. Morris, M.D., electrophysiologist with Norton Heart Specialists and medical director of the Norton Heart & Vascular Institute Heart Rhythm Center. “It does empower patients to take ownership and be more involved in their own health care.”

Zio Patch Monitor

The Zio patch is a Food and Drug Administration-approved, small, adhesive, water-resistant, medical-grade monitor patch which can be worn for 14 days to record heart rhythms. Zio resembles an oversized adhesive bandage with a rectangular button in the middle and is wireless. It sticks to the skin just below the left collarbone.

When you experience an unusual heart rhythm, you press the button on the patch and log a note about your symptoms and activities.

“Patients really love the Zio monitor because of the convenience of having just the patch and the lack of obtrusive cables attached to it,” said Robert A. Schwartz, M.D., electrophysiologist with Norton Heart Specialists and part of the Norton Heart & Vascular Institute team.

Reveal LINQ Insertable Cardiac Monitor

About the size of a paper clip, Reveal LINQ is a wireless, implantable loop recording device that monitors heart rhythms for up to three years. It is a cardiac monitor ideal for patients experiencing infrequent symptoms that require long-term monitoring or ongoing management.

Cutting-edge Technology Partnered With Specialized Care

Norton Heart & Vascular Institute provides a high level of specialized care to match the cutting-edge heart monitoring technology we offer our patients. The Heart Rhythm Center device monitoring unit uses wireless technology to provide 24-hour monitoring for many patients. Staffed with a team of device clinicians, our team will make sure that you have the right technology and you know exactly how to use it to get the most accurate results from your heart rhythm monitoring.

Once we have your results, our electrophysiology specialists evaluate and provide a customized treatment plan for patients with irregular heartbeats of any kind. The team works with each patient to create a custom plan to manage and even eliminate heart arrhythmias.
