Consult with the maternal-fetal medicine team.
Being referred to a maternal-fetal medicine specialist can bring up various emotions. Remember, you’re in the right place. Alongside your obstetrician and medical team, a skilled and compassionate group of specialists will be there for you, guiding you through whatever challenges your pregnancy brings.
If you live outside of Louisville, you’ll have access to the same Norton Children’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists at locations in Bowling Green, Elizabethtown and Paducah. We have two offices in Louisville – one downtown near Norton Children’s Hospital and one at the Norton Children’s Perinatal Center on the Norton Healthcare – St. Matthews campus. The center brings all providers together for convenient scheduling from prenatal through postpartum.
Maternal-fetal medicine specialists help mothers and babies who have complications in pregnancy. Patients referred to maternal-fetal medicine specialists have complex pregnancies such as twins, triplets or more, or fetuses found to have some abnormalities revealed by ultrasound.
The Norton Children’s Maternal-Fetal Medicine providers are a part of Norton Women’s Care. They’ll partner with you, your family and your entire health care team to work toward the best outcome for you and your baby.
At your first visit at one of our maternal-fetal offices, we will collect a comprehensive history and conduct a physical exam. We’ll seek to understand your individual needs as well as educate you on why your pregnancy is considered complex. Then, we’ll work with you on a plan to manage your pregnancy and coordinate with pediatric specialists to prepare for delivery. Typically, you’ll be able to deliver at your home hospital with your regular obstetrician. In some cases, you’ll need to deliver at Norton Hospital in Louisville, which is connected by a pedway to the top-rated neonatal intensive care unit at Norton Children’s Hospital.
