Getting an annual screening mammogram is not exactly something I look forward to. I don’t think I’ve ever met a woman who celebrates the annual squeeze-fest.
Some women even ask, “Why bother?” There is one very good reason why: Breast cancer affects one in eight women every year.
Even though most medical organizations recommend annual clinical breast exams and mammograms beginning at age 40, women are still making excuses for not getting mammograms. Now, “I don’t have time” isn’t one of them.
This year I found out that I can now schedule my mammogram onlinefor the time that’s most convenient for me, at the location I prefer. With a full-time job, two kids and all the responsibilities that come with those things and running a household, I like the idea of being able to decide when and where I get my mammogram.
I was surprised at how easy it is! I was able to choose between a regular screening mammogram or a 3-D mammogram.
Once I had made my choice, a screen popped up with the available dates, times and locations.
I selected the one I wanted and entered the details.
All I then had to do was sign into my MyChart account.
And my appointment was scheduled.
Did I already say that I like choosing the time that’s most convenient for me, at the location I prefer? I know I did, but it bears repeating.
If you are due for your screening mammogram, make it easy on yourself and try online scheduling. If you’re not sure, talk to your primary care or OB/GYN physician. And if you find a lump in your breast or have another concern, always start with your physician first.
