Multiple Sclerosis Patient Support

A full range of multiple sclerosis support options is one reason the National MS Society has designated Norton Neuroscience Institute Hussung Family Multiple Sclerosis Center as a Center for Comprehensive MS Care.

Experiencing a chronic disease prone to unpredictable symptoms, MS patients benefit from comprehensive care that includes the expertise and viewpoints of health care providers from many specialties.

An array of medical, nursing, mental health, rehabilitation and social services are available to MS patients managing their disease and symptoms.

Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Centers provide MS patients with social workers and a patient navigator available to help improve access to care, provide valuable information to help patients manage their disease and address their quality of life issues.

Services at Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Centers are available at no cost to Norton Neuroscience Institute patients, thanks to donations to the Norton Healthcare Foundation.

Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Centers have devoted a team to work exclusively with patients and families navigating a multiple sclerosis diagnosis, including:

  • MS nurse navigator: Works with the treatment team to provide diagnosis and medication education and patient navigation resources to help patients along their journey
  • Social worker: Helps families on matters including payment assistance for medications and coordination of in-home assistance
  • Psychologist: Assists patients and families with common issues faced by those with MS, including anxiety and depression
  • Pharmacist: Assists patients with prescription guidance and navigation of testing and other medication requirements

Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Centers and the dedicated MS support staff ensure all patient questions are answered and work with you and your caregivers to coordinate exceptional care.

Prescription Assistance

At Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Center, we work to ensure all patients are educated on their prescription options and have adequate access to their preferred treatment. The MS nurse navigator, social worker, and pharmacist work alongside patients to determine the best course of medication, in addition to offering application assistance for financial aid and insurance coverage options.

Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Centers have a team that works exclusively with patients and families to provide support and resources to navigate a multiple sclerosis diagnosis.

Disability Consulting

The Norton Neuroscience Resource Centers offer our patients the opportunity to consult with a social worker specializing in disability care and resources, at least twice a month.

Transportation

Multiple sclerosis can affect your ability to get around. To help you get the care you need at Norton Healthcare facilities, our team will help arrange transportation to and from appointments.

Driving Assessment Program

Norton Neurosciences & Spine Rehabilitation Center offers the Norton Hospital Driving Assessment Program to individuals affected by neurological, orthopedic and developmental conditions and those who have experienced age-related changes in function. The program’s goals are to evaluate and help restore driving ability so you can return to safe, independent driving.

What to Expect at the Norton Neuroscience Institute Hussung Family Multiple Sclerosis Center

  • A full range of MS patient support options at the Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Center in Norton Medical Plaza 2 – St. Matthews includes remote and in-person classes and on-demand patient education videos from your providers.
  • A patient navigator (a nurse) is dedicated to helping you work with your MS treatment team. The patient navigator also can help you with arranging transportation and with insurance approvals, and can provide other assistance to get you the best care possible.
  • We have a social worker, psychologist and a pharmacist dedicated to supporting MS patients.
  • The Hussung Family Multiple Sclerosis Center MS clinic is on the Norton Healthcare – St. Matthews campus, along with an infusion center. Other infusion center locations are in downtown Louisville and on the campus of Norton Brownsboro Hospital.
  • The clinic is recognized as a Center for Comprehensive MS Care by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
  • Medicare, Medicaid, and most major commercial insurance plans are accepted.
  • Book appointments, get alerts when an earlier appointment becomes available, communicate with your medical provider, refill prescriptions and more through your free Norton MyChart account.
