Multiple Sclerosis Patient Support

A full range of support options for multiple sclerosis (MS) patients is one reason the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has designated Norton Neuroscience Institute’s MS program as a Center for Comprehensive MS Care.

Experiencing a chronic disease prone to unpredictable symptoms, MS patients benefit from comprehensive care that includes the expertise and viewpoints of health care providers from many specialties.

An array of medical, nursing, mental health, rehabilitation and social services are available to MS patients managing their disease and symptoms.

The Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Center provides MS patients with social workers and nurse navigators available to help improve your access to care, provide valuable information to help manage your disease and address your quality of life issues.

Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Center services are available at no cost to Norton Neuroscience Institute patients thanks to donations to the Norton Healthcare Foundation.

The Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Center has devoted a team to work exclusively with patients and families navigating a multiple sclerosis diagnosis, including:

  • MS nurse navigator: Works with your treatment team to provide diagnosis and medication education and patient navigation resources to help along your journey.
  • Social worker: Helps families on matters including payment assistance for medications and coordination of in-home assistance
  • Psychologist: Assists patients and families with common issues faced by those with MS, including anxiety and depression
  • Pharmacist: Assists patients with prescription guidance and navigation of testing and other medication requirements

The Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Center and the dedicated MS support staff ensure all patient questions are answered and work with you and your caregivers to coordinate exceptional care.

Prescription Assistance

At Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Center, we work to ensure all patients are educated on their prescription options and have adequate access to their preferred treatment. The MS nurse navigator, social worker, and pharmacist work alongside patients to determine the best course of medication, in addition to offering application assistance for financial aid and insurance coverage options.

MS 101

Newly diagnosed with MS? The Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Center offers an introductory virtual class with our nurse navigator, pharmacist, and psychiatrist. You will learn more about your medication options, mental health and how to navigate treatment.

MS Yoga

Yoga is recognized as an excellent form of exercise for people with MS. It brings together physical poses with breath to strengthen the body, mind and spirit, and to bring about a sense of peace. MS Yoga will give you tools that support balance, walking, alignment and strength to support everyday activities.

African American MS Group

Studies show that MS can have different symptoms and a greater risk of progression in African Americans. This group is for African Americans who have been diagnosed with MS to share mutual experiences and achievements on their journey.

Disability Consulting

The Norton Neuroscience Resource Center offers our patients the opportunity to consult with a social worker specializing in disability care and resources, at least twice a month.

Transportation

Multiple sclerosis can affect your ability to get around. To help you get the care you need at Norton Healthcare facilities, our team will help arrange transportation to and from appointments.

Driving Assessment Program

Norton Neurosciences & Spine Rehabilitation Center offers the Norton Hospital Driving Assessment Program to individuals affected by neurological, orthopedic, developmental conditions and those who have experienced age-related changes in function. The program’s goals are to evaluate and help restore driving ability so you can return to safe, independent driving.

  • We operate Norton Neuroscience Institute Resource Center — the area’s only center dedicated to helping you and your family navigate your lives after a stroke. The Norton Healthcare Foundation funds this important service, so patients don’t need to pay.
  • We have dedicated patient navigators who can help with transportation, schedule follow-up appointments and confirm that you can afford prescriptions.
  • We provide support groups and exercise classes, develop customized diet plans and can help with issues such as access to disability assistance, housing, and financial and employment advice.
  • At Norton Neuroscience Institute, we want to help you get better as well as prevent you from getting sick in the first place. Get help quitting smoking and learn the signs of stroke
